You know what it’s like. You’ve been knee-deep in sequins, leather and colour-blocked separates for months now and then all of a sudden 70% off signs are spreading over everything you’ve been lusting after all season. You’re tempted just buy IT ALL. It’s a bargain, right? Well maybe not. Don’t end up blowing your hard-earned Christmas pay for pieces that will look dated by the time that awful New Year’s Eve hangover has worn off. I have to say, my “market research” this weekend (i.e. checking out the post-Christmas sales in town) – was pretty disappointing. The sales just weren’t all that great! Then again, neither were the crowds.
Sale Hell
In the worst cases fights broke out at some of Britain’s top stores as shoppers jostled for the best bargains at Boxing Day sales. According to shoppers at Gucci, where £500 handbags, shoes and other goods were being sold at half price, a police van and four patrol cars raced to the scene after reports of punches being thrown. This confirms for me, more than ever, the best course of action is to stay home and shop online! Save on petrol, your self esteem(!) and know the bargains and barg-nots before you waste your time and money. Also online sales start earlier – so you can get the best bargains sooner online.

It may astound you to know that some people have already finished their Christmas shopping and it may astound others to think some people haven’t even started! Well we know that not everyone has that amount of free time and we know that not everyone is that organised. After a quick jaunt in the big city this week and a lot of London style watching the one look that a few of the coolest city girls were sporting was the leather jacket and feminine dress combo. Dannii Minogue
What a weekend Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogues X Factor fashion face-off continued with an array of to die for dresses and then the a-mazing live performance by Lady Gaga… love it! Monday is obviously the day in the Designer Desirables offices that we discuss in length the latest outfits worn by Cheryl and Dannii our two favourite judges and ask – who gets your vote? Personally Saturday night was no biggie but they certainly made up for that on Sunday. Cheryl’s look came over all gothic in a black puff-shoulder mini dress from Stéphane Rolland, featuring a dramatic long train at the back. While this is far and away from Cheryl’s usual young and funky style, her minimal jewellery, sleek hair and smoky eye make-up ensure she pulled it off in style; her look completed with edgy chain detail platforms from Pierre Hardy. Obviously influenced by the appearance of Lady Gaga, Dannii chose an embellished silver mini dress from Aurelio Costarella featuring a keyhole cut-out detail on the front, with an edgy rolled quiff in her hair. We’re sure Lady G herself would have approved of this ontrend look!
