Steal 2010 Looks For Less!

Monday, January 4th, 2010

It’s the clever way to sale shop… steal 2010’s key looks for less…  basically choose wisely, buy now in sale and pick up new trends to wear all year! It all makes chiconomic sense and here at Designer Desirables we want to advise you on a few of the trends to buy that will be the fashion highlights of spring/summer 2010!

Delicate Nudes

Fashion gets uber fresh for 2010 with a delicious palette of peaches and cream. The big story for spring/summer is nudity the large majority of shows opened with an array of girly ice-cream colours. Look for soft sheer nude pink fabrics and make draping and cut your big style statement. This Kasike pink nude dress with sheer back is a perfect example of how to wear this trend well.

Underwear As Outerwear

In spring and summer fashion tends to get a little more revealing and we will see what lies beneath come to the surface in 2010. Run your eyes over the spring/summer runway collections and you’ll find sheer fabrics used in a multitude of ways: tight sheer pieces, layers, and the much sought after delicate, feminine draping. So this season wear inner wear as outerwear with lingerie-inspired lacy dresses and see-through corsetry. Think corsets over clothes and team this luxe Carling In Love satin corseted bustier top with crisp pants for a sleek evening look.

Sexy Leather

The leather trend is extending far beyond just jackets and into pretty much every other type of clothing. You name it, we’ll be wearing it in leather in spring/summer 2010. Leather shorts, leather dresses, leather jeggings…. and more. The leather trend is going nowhere so why not wear this sexy Lancaster crinkled bomber jacket in spring with exposed skin over a long printed maxi dresses for a fresh take on the style.

Subtle Sparkle

Leave the full on glitz of Christmas behind and embrace a more muted way to shine. There was a touch subtle sparkle in the front row of every single show, it’s a trend that is built to last and whether you wear it on your tights, on lamé socks with high heels, woven into your chiffon evening gowns or tied to your handbag, a little bit of glitter always does a girl good. Opt for this beautifully embellished Unique Boutique Cassie dress and simply add golden heels and a clutch for 2010 party perfect!

Handbags At Dawn: It’s Sale Time.

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

You know what it’s like. You’ve been knee-deep in sequins, leather and colour-blocked separates for months now and then all of a sudden 70% off signs are spreading over everything you’ve been lusting after all season. You’re tempted just buy IT ALL. It’s a bargain, right? Well maybe not. Don’t end up blowing your hard-earned Christmas pay for pieces that will look dated by the time that awful New Year’s Eve hangover has worn off. I have to say, my “market research” this weekend (i.e. checking out the post-Christmas sales in town) – was pretty disappointing. The sales just weren’t all that great! Then again, neither were the crowds.

Sale Hell

In the worst cases fights broke out at some of Britain’s top stores as shoppers jostled for the best bargains at Boxing Day sales. According to shoppers at Gucci, where £500 handbags, shoes and other goods were being sold at half price, a police van and four patrol cars raced to the scene after reports of punches being thrown. This confirms for me, more than ever, the best course of action is to stay home and shop online! Save on petrol, your self esteem(!) and know the bargains and barg-nots before you waste your time and money. Also online sales start earlier – so you can get the best bargains sooner online.

Smart girls shop savvy which is why we’ve rounded up the all the very best designer fashion, shoes and accessories with up to an A-Mazing 70% off because really who wants to battle against the cold and the crowds with that pesky Christmas hangover…   No queues, no squabbles, just fashion. It’s THAT easy at the designer desirables sales.

The Thigh’s The Limit

Friday, November 6th, 2009

The fashion gods have spoken thigh highs boots are back.  Big for A/W 09 decadent thigh high boots are reining supreme over the catwalks from all the fashion giants including Louis Vuitton, Emilio Pucci, Rodarte and Gucci.   No longer confined in our minds to the ‘working girl’ a la Pretty Women the thigh high has matured into an ultra sexy yet sleek boot.

Love them or hate them thigh highs are being seen everywhere and when pop starlet Rhianna was spotted at Paris fashion week in these little Stella McCartney beauties I decided it was time to take note.  Now although I love them I fear these particular pair are not for mere mortals like myself so I found a tres chic street snap of a more obtainable yet still very slick look!

Looking Through The Lens At Body Confidence

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Designer Desirables have just recently moved over to live models from mannequins, and one of the first stumbling blocks was where do we find the models, and what size should our models be?  One thing we knew for sure, we wanted a selection of REAL WOMEN not size zero models.  Our models range from a UK 6-8 to a UK 12 and are all from the North of England.

Caroline Size UK 12

Caroline Size UK 12

Caroline is our model who is  UK 12 and is 5 foot 10 and she looks stunning in evening wear.

Caroline has a full time job in retail is getting married in May and making her own wedding dress!

Emma Size 10 Model

Emma Size 10 Model

Emma is our UK 10 curvacious model and has just recently won Miss Galaxy Teen International in the USA.

Emma is a personal fitness instructor and loves chocolate!

Cassie Size UK 10

Cassie Size UK 10

Cassie is a svelte UK 10 and has maintained her natural figure after her gorgeous boy Charlie who is 3 in March.

Cassie will be joining the Designer Desirables team soon, as our in-house model, buyer and editorial manager.

Erin Size UK 6-8

Erin Size UK 6-8

Erin is our UK 6-8 model and is naturally this size.  Erin is currently studying a masters in International Business and hates the maths part of her course.

One of our biggest discoveries from using real women in our clothes was finding that manufacturers are out of touch with sizing for real women today.  This is a concern as we all know what women and girls are like when it comes to label size, and often when we have to go up a size our confidence can be knocked.

At Designer Desirables we want women to feel confident and sexy in all of our garments and our sales team will be able to help you with real sizing in all our garments.  Many of our ball gowns have had to re-sized from size UK 14 and UK 16 down to a size UK 12, not only is this unhelpful for Designer Desirables and our valued customers, but women have a resistance to buy a size up simply because we want to be skinny like the models we see in the magazines and celebrities who are size zero.

birmingham-gok-wan

HOWEVER!  After watching Gok Wan’s How to Look Good Naked we are in full support of his petition calling for a body confidence lesson to be included in all school curriculums. Please click the link provided and support this fabulous petition.  Currently it is the fourth most popular on the Number 10 website so everyone needs to try and get this petition to be number one in order to get noticed.

During the show a magazine commented that they find it difficult to use real women models because the manufacturers will only give them size UK 8 clothes for their photo shoots.  Conversely we believe that they have the power to ask for a bigger size or to use a different manufacturer for a shoot that will give magazines reasonable sized clothes for real women to wear.  There is always room to negotiate so why aren’t magazines trying their hardest to focus photo shoots at real women?  It’s real women who flick through their shiny pages every week?  They have the power to use real women models and get the right sizes for photo shoots.  We can do it as an e retailer so there is no excuse for the magazines!

Body confidence and using real women as models is something we feel very strongly about here at Designer Desirables therefore you have any comments please post them!  Lets not stop here in our fight to get real women in magazines and as models, we all need to do it together!

BBC’s Stylesearch Winner – Holly Bryant

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Designer Desirables recently posted the BBC’s Stylesearch competetion details and we can now reveal the winner – Holly Bryant.

Four lucky finalists, Camilla Seckin, Hayley Trezise,Karishma Murli Harjani and Holly Bryant battled it out to create an ethical outfit for £100 in 2 hours and be crowned top stylist.

Holly Bryant a 21 year old fashion student at Bristol University was the triumphant winner and here are a few tips from Holly:

  • When hunting for a great ethical outfit, never dismiss anything you see, as every item of clothing has potential to become something fabulous.
  • On finding inspiration, think outside the box, nobody wants to see anything they’ve seen before.
  • On ethical fashion, it’s not to be snubbed, it’s a growing industry which clearly reflects that there is a strong interest from consumers for ethically produced clothing.

To find out more Holly Bryant takes you through the hectic scenes behind BBC Threads Best of British catwalk at london fashion week. visit www.bbc.co.uk/thread/video

While you’re there why not have a go at some ethical fashion yourself and check out Twiggy’s Frock Exchange and find out all you need to know about holding your own clothes swapping party. www.bbc.co.uk/thread/twiggysfrockexchange

Just Cavalli Back On Track

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

This Winter the Just Cavalli collection is back on track. In the Spring Collection I thought his styles lacked the vibrant prints and colours synonmous with Cavalli, but his Winter Collection is definately showing promise. Gorgeous colourful prints, leopard prints which disappeared are back and sexy shapes with fab matching accessories. Roberto Cavalli has the skill of showing off the best in a woman and his pieces make women feel special when they wear them. Here are a few of my favourite Just Cavalli pieces from Designer Desirables.

Anneka Svenska’s Busy Fashion Week Schedule

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Oh my goodness last week was Fashion week in London and I have only just recovered! I wore my Designer Desirables Kasike Kaftan with my leather trousers, as its really comfortable and certainly stands out in the crowd.

Tuesday was the biggest night with me deciding to attend 7 events all in one evening.

First I attended Ana Sekularac’s  runway show with top shoe designer Katarina Mootich and stunning actress Margo Stilley. We then rushed quickly over to Harrods for Rock & Republics new make up launch. I was joined there by Estonian Supermodel Kaja Wunder. We glugged down a few glasses of champagne only to then have to speed over to China Whites to the Wright Stuff’s Korin Nolan’s Pamper Ball, which sadly we could only stay 10 minutes as we had to return back to Sloane Street to the new Dolce & Gabbana store launch. There I met up with Fashion TVs Hofit Golan and celebrity designer Scott Henshall. We did some filming and interviewed a multitude of celebrities and the rushed quickly off to the Natural History Museum red carpet event – 30 Days Of Fashion Gala. Elle Mcpherson and Margo Stilley also attended the Gala. It was a fabulous event with many photographs being auctioned for charity and the biggest goody bag I have ever seen full of products.

After an evening of chaos, Hofit, Scott and I decided to retire for a quiet evening at celebrity reataurant Cipriani in Mayfair, just when we noticed we have forgotten about the Alfred Dunhill shop launch opposite, so in order not to disappoint the owners we popped in for a quick 20 minutes of socialising. I must say the new Dunhill shop is fabulous and reminded me of a gorgeous cigar rolling shop in Key West or something which had fallen out of Tombstone, Arizona. It smelt fabulous inside.

More to follow soon

How To Beat The Credit Crunch

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Every day we hear the words “credit crunch” and we are continually bombarded with news of doom and gloom. Yes we are all feeling the pinch but there are ways to shop to make your money go further. Treating yourself to a new outfit always cheers you up and is a great moral booster.

Shop around and do your research, internet shopping is easy to browse and there are some great websites offering great prices. It’s much easier than trekking on foot from shop to shop and you have a huge choice at your fingertips. Compare prices and go for the best price. Quite often buying cheap and cheerful clothes is a temporary stop gap but sometimes it’s false economy. The better the quality the longer they last. Designer Labels can be expensive but they do last and can be worn season after season.  Jazz up existing clothes with a pair of new shoes and some accessories or go for a great handbag to complement the look. A classic Designer Handbag is always a statement piece and will always be stylish. Mix & Match is the perfect solution and clashing colours is a great way to revitalise existing clothes with a few select new pieces and its very in fashion. Check out return policies as you don’t want to buy something that you cant get your money back if you dont like it. Check out P&P costs as they can be hidden extras, go for sites that offer great value.

Bear in mind if you are shopping on websites outside the UK your money is not going far, if you spent 500 Euros a few months ago your cost would have equated to about £385  now its costing you about £413, and if you spent $500 on a US site a few months ago it would have equated £251 now its approximately £272 so my advice is stick to UK sites as a UK buyer. Obvioulsy EU & Non EU buyers its a great time to shop on UK websites.

Designer Desirables is a great place to find Designer Dresses, Shoes, Bags and Accessories at very desirable prices. Here you can get a good designer pieces at very competetive prices that won’t break the bank.  The Sale section has some great mark down prices to compete with any high street shop. You can “buy it, try it and if you don’t like it return it” with our no quibble refund policy, so what are you waiting for don’t let the credit crunch get you down visit Designer Desirables now! Also in September there is Half Price P&P so it’s only £5.00 P&P in the UK to try as many items as you like and returns are FREE so theres another great saving for you, plus International P&P is Half Price. Non EU Buyers also have the luxury of VAT free Prices which is a huge saving of 17.5% on published prices.

Check out these bargains:

Dolce & Gabbana Satin Court Shoes only £135

Prada Fringed Tote Bag £675

Sagaie Leopard Jacket £89
