Oscar’s Excitement!

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Here at Designer Desirables we will definitely be staying up way past our bedtime this Sunday to watch the 82nd Annual Awards! Obviously the Oscar’s are (supposedly) about the films (lalala) but for us its all about the red carpet dress fest! The high octane glamour, the fabulous jewels, the haute couture…. and of course the big fashion hits and misses of the evening! Take note Bjork.

First to some memorable Oscar’s fashion moments that dazzled to get us all in the red carpet, dress spotting mood…

Audrey Hepburn In Hubert de Givenchy

Audrey Hepburn In Hubert de Givenchy

Audrey Hepburn led the trend for couture at the Oscars with her Hubert de Givenchy-designed gown. On this occasion she won the Oscar for Roman Holiday at the 26th Awards and looked utterly stunning, evoking her chic signature style with this etched floral sleeveless gown.

Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor

For true Hollywood glamour look no further than Elizabeth Taylor who looked drop dead gorgeous at the 32nd Annual Awards. The simplicity of a draped neckline and waist were complemented with dazzling diamonds in this elegant look. Points too for the fabulous fur and statement clutch.

Goldie Hawn

Goldie Hawn

At the dawn of a new decade, Goldie Hawn earned an Oscar nomination for Private Benjamin (love that film) and represented the bold fashion times in black satin with polka dots and voluminous ruffles. Note -ruffles are back this season so channel a bit of 80’s style this spring.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow

“I just wanted to look very sweet,” said Gwyneth Paltrow of her candy-pink Ralph Lauren dress, which she wore when she won the Oscar for her performance in Shakespeare in Love in 1999. Well that she did… although her gushing acceptance speech was a little too sweet and incredibly cringe worthy!!

Now to the nominees we will be watching and a few DD predictions!

Carey Mulligan commanded the red carpet at the Bafta’s in this striking Vionnet Dress and has seemingly come out of nowhere with her amazing performance in An Education and for her high fashion forward choices. I wonder what her pick will be for the Oscars perhaps the Best Actress nominee could pick this classic chanel gown!

carey mulligan

Always a showstopper, Penélope Cruz stayed out of the rain at the 2010 Golden Globes  (holding her own umbrella gasp!) and brought dramatic glamour in a black lace Giorgio Armani Prive gown. Ou prediction number two… Cruz could continue her award season loyalty to Armani Privé in this sculptural pink gown. Miss Cruz is up for Best Supporting Actress in her performance in Nine.

Penelope Cruz

penelope gown predictions

Sandra Bullock seen here in a shimmering purple Bottega Veneta ballgown looked simply beautiful at the 2010 Golden Globes with her chic up do and minimal accessories, ensuring a perfectly polished look. Bullock could up the ante on her fav look, simple elegance, with this J. Mendel intricate blue gown. Sandra is hoping to take home a little gold statue for Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side.
