Looking Through The Lens At Body Confidence

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Designer Desirables have just recently moved over to live models from mannequins, and one of the first stumbling blocks was where do we find the models, and what size should our models be?  One thing we knew for sure, we wanted a selection of REAL WOMEN not size zero models.  Our models range from a UK 6-8 to a UK 12 and are all from the North of England.

Caroline Size UK 12

Caroline is our model who is  UK 12 and is 5 foot 10 and she looks stunning in evening wear.

Caroline has a full time job in retail is getting married in May and making her own wedding dress!

Emma Size 10 Model

Emma is our UK 10 curvacious model and has just recently won Miss Galaxy Teen International in the USA.

Emma is a personal fitness instructor and loves chocolate!

Cassie Size UK 10

Cassie is a svelte UK 10 and has maintained her natural figure after her gorgeous boy Charlie who is 3 in March.

Cassie will be joining the Designer Desirables team soon, as our in-house model, buyer and editorial manager.

Erin Size UK 6-8

Erin Size UK 6-8

Erin is our UK 6-8 model and is naturally this size.  Erin is currently studying a masters in International Business and hates the maths part of her course.

One of our biggest discoveries from using real women in our clothes was finding that manufacturers are out of touch with sizing for real women today.  This is a concern as we all know what women and girls are like when it comes to label size, and often when we have to go up a size our confidence can be knocked.

At Designer Desirables we want women to feel confident and sexy in all of our garments and our sales team will be able to help you with real sizing in all our garments.  Many of our ball gowns have had to re-sized from size UK 14 and UK 16 down to a size UK 12, not only is this unhelpful for Designer Desirables and our valued customers, but women have a resistance to buy a size up simply because we want to be skinny like the models we see in the magazines and celebrities who are size zero.

HOWEVER!  After watching Gok Wan’s How to Look Good Naked we are in full support of his petition calling for a body confidence lesson to be included in all school curriculums. Please click the link provided and support this fabulous petition.  Currently it is the fourth most popular on the Number 10 website so everyone needs to try and get this petition to be number one in order to get noticed.

During the show a magazine commented that they find it difficult to use real women models because the manufacturers will only give them size UK 8 clothes for their photo shoots.  Conversely we believe that they have the power to ask for a bigger size or to use a different manufacturer for a shoot that will give magazines reasonable sized clothes for real women to wear.  There is always room to negotiate so why aren’t magazines trying their hardest to focus photo shoots at real women?  It’s real women who flick through their shiny pages every week?  They have the power to use real women models and get the right sizes for photo shoots.  We can do it as an e retailer so there is no excuse for the magazines!

Body confidence and using real women as models is something we feel very strongly about here at Designer Desirables therefore you have any comments please post them!  Lets not stop here in our fight to get real women in magazines and as models, we all need to do it together!

Trinny & Susannah – Why Don’t I Dig It?

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Designer Desirables loves Fashion Makeover Shows and Gok Wan is by far my favourite, but why don’t I dig Trinny & Susannah. ITV’s Trinny & Susannah Undress The Nation just gets right up my nose and I think it’s a poor version of Goks “How To Look Good Naked”. I keep watching hoping they will grow on me but I always feel let down and that what they are trying to achieve just doesn’t seem to work. I never feel good for the “re-vamped” effort at the end, whereas with Gok I am so elated for the person he has restyled as they look and feel gorgeous, I never get that feeling from Trinny & Susannah in fact I feel they are very patronising in their approach.  Maybe it’s just me and no matter what they do I won’t like it!

Their Profile is worth reading on the ITV Official Website though, and I must admit that they are very attractive!

If you want to look good just visit Designer Desirables and give yourself a makeover with a great choice of Dresses, Shoes, Handbags & Accessories…. who needs Trinny & Susannah?

Men & Women Do You Look Good Naked?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Designer Desirables is a HUGE fan of Gok Wan and his successful TV shows, How To Look Good Naked & Fashion Fix. But the big question is – would you dare to reveal all on national TV, I know I couldn’t but I do admire those who can. To stand in front of a mirror naked and let the nation see everything is so brave, and it really proves that we are all different and we should love the body we own.  Designer Desirables has a large selection of designer dresses, shoes, bags and accessories to suit all shapes & sizes and with designer clothes you get great fit and its a myth that they are just for the perfect shape, Designer clothes are cut well, fit well, using great fabrics and styles and make any girl feel good.

Apparently they are looking for MEN on their next show so if you want to be on the show and are brave enough to reveal all you can apply on the Channel 4 website and they are also looking for Groups. Or if you want tickets to Channel 4 shows visit the channel 4 website  for more information.

Gok’s Fashionistas Fail Again- This Time On The Red Carpet!

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Yet another Fabulous Fashion Fix Show by Gok Wan but yet another DISASTER by the so called Fashionistas.

Such a fabulous challenge to create The Red Carpet Look. The Fashionista’s spent £106,307.00 and still FAILED miserably. Gok wowed everyone with a £741.65 spend.

Where are they going wrong?  They are too personal and tunnelled and every week they pick the same Designers using the same “personal style”….I am sick of seeing Phillip Lim Dresses, MIU MIU plain black shoes and lacklustre designer clutch bags. They have the choice of the World’s Best Designers and always stick to their preferred small handful. The Red Carpet look should wow everyone & sparkle & shine, where was Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Jovani, Christain Lacroix, what about glitzy shoes..Jimmy Choo and Gina, where were the party bags?

I DESPAIR !!!!!!!!!

You can get the Red Carpet Look at Designer Desirables where you can buy Designer Labels at Desirable Prices

Gok Wan’s Party Dress Challenge – Britains Top Fashion Buyers Fail Again!

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Every week on  Goks Fashion Fix  ,  Gok challenges 4 top retail buyers to pick 4 outfits with unlimited funding and Gok has a budget of £200 per outfit. Every week Gok wins!!!  Yes he has great ideas and style but lets get real, the 4 buyers have the PICK of the best Designer Outfits in the world but they fail miserably every week. This week was “Party Time” and the 4 designer outfits they chose were so BORING!! where was the Glitz, Glamour and Sexiness….not a bit of sparkle to be seen. If I had an unlimited budget in Harrods, Selfridges & Browns I am quite sure even I could do better. I believe every girl should have a mixture of Designer & High Street fashion and the trick is to mix and match cleverley!

Gok is brilliant though. I was fascinated by his Accessory Tips. Take a plain dress and glam it up. Gok used fashion jewellery pieces to re-vamp his outfits, chunky necklaces stitched on to necklines, earrings on shoes and bags on belts.  If you want some great jewels to funk up your outfit have a look at Designer Desirables, the Black Braid Chunky Necklace would easily stitch onto a dress and the Elasticated Bracelets would make great cuffs on dresses, but if you are not handy just vamp up your outfit with lots of jewellery.

Colour Clash Style

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

This Summer is all about bright vivid colours and styling them so they clash. Even though our weather is dull at least you can brighten up your wardrobe by following this season’s fashion look. Gok Wan is brilliant at clashing those colours every week on TV. The beauty of colour clashing is that you can wear your items as seperates or wear them together without having to worry if they match!  For those of you who are not so adventurous just take a plain classic dress and clash those accessories   Kasike is a great designer label for vibrant colours. It is a current trend that allows you to wear any item in your wardrobe without having to match up perfectly….just brilliant. This Summer’s hot look is very affordable and easy to get.

Designer Desirables has a great selection of affordable dressesbags, shoes and accessories to help you clash your colours and be a fashion leader.

Gok Wan – We Love You!

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

We love the talented and tenacious Gok Wan and are addicted to his new TV show. We love his honesty and flair and his style tips are so helpful. This week Gok road tested a selection of Sexy One Piece Swimsuits. They were put to the test by a team of synchronised swimmers to see if they would stay on in the water during a synchronised routine. Some looked amazing but failed the water test BUT the Aguaclara Knots One Piece passed the test with flying colours!!!.

They all failed the “Sun Tan” test as they left white marks in silly places, but come on girls let’s get real, these swimsuits are designed for posing and looking good, not for sunbathing.

So if you want to get the sexy one piece look why not visit Designer Desirables.
